Welcome to Berkeley Estate Cellars
"Wine is sunlight held together by water." Galileo Galilei
Unique Location, Distinctive Flavor
Nestled in the fertile Uncompahgre Valley of central Colorado, Berkeley Estate Cellars produces graceful, yet complex wines that mirror its landscape. Gouged by Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the region boasts plentiful irrigation and, in 1999, was established as a National Park by President Clinton.
The town of Olathe, Colorado, is at the same latitude as Napa Valley, California, and while our wines are similar in some respects, they are also very distinctive. A higher growing altitude (5,000 feet); rocky, sandy soil; and variable weather combine to create wines that are brighter, more complex and bigger in flavor.
The vineyard, formerly known as Garrett Estate Cellars, was established in 2003 in Olathe, a Western Slope community known for producing a variety of fruits including apples, peaches and of course, wine grapes.
Recently under new ownership, Berkeley Estate Cellars hired veteran wine maker, Mike Young, and his wife, Wendy, to create and present a variety of wines that showcase our natural landscape. Welcome to Berkeley Estate Cellars.
